After a short few hours of sleep, we woke up at 4AM to go to the Tsukiji Fish Market for breakfast. Because our priorities always revolve around food, we chose to stand in line for the sushi restaurant rather than watch the tuna auction. Unfortunately, when we got there at 5ish, there was already a long line and we would not start eating for another an hour and half! The sushi was delicious! Everyone in the restaurant speaks pretty good English to boot. So far, everyone's assumed that I speak Japanese. I suspect they think I'm a little slow since I always immediately turn to Hiro whenever someone asks me a question. I think it's also blowing some people's minds when they see me and Hiro speak English. Alas, I digress.
After returning to our fancy Hyatt hotel, we gathered our things and were off to lunch! Since the one star Michelin place that we wanted to go was not serving their specialty, we went in search for ramen at Shibuya. It was delicious as usual and we went to Harajuku where we saw the so called "Gothic Lolita" style of dress. We also saw some disturbing advertising of lingerie worn by girls who look too young to be legal. It was just awkward. We also went to the big Shinto Shrine in Tokyo and were in luck! We saw 4 couples getting married and were happy to be part of their big day!
We rushed to meet Hiro's grandmother and uncle for dinner. The menu? Tempura! The meal was far too large for me to eat, but thankfully Hiro was there to help me out. We also saw Ginza, Tokyo's rodeo drive. I finally saw a Harry Winston store in person. I've always thought those were imaginary where only celebrities can call on its greatness and make it appear!
Finally, we began the 2 hour trip to Hiro's other grandparents' house, where we're imposing for the next couple of days. His grandparents are incredibly cute and I think I've already been adopted despite the fact that we have not communicated more than 5 words in the 2 times I've seen them.
Today we hung around Hiro's grandparents' town and ate delicious catch of the day sashimi given my love of sushi and sashimi. I've already asked Hiro if we can live in Japan. He said no. :(
Pictures to come soon!
