Taiwan Day 2

Much food was had... the end!

No, I'm kidding. Not about the much food, but not the end. Today, we had rice burgers which is exactly as it sounds. Instead of buns, they have rice and instead of fried minced assorted meat that are in McDonald burgers, they have stir fried beef! it was delicious! We then went to the Chiang Kai Shek memorial. It was much nicer than I remember since they put in a very elaborate music hall and opera house. We even arrived just in time to see the changing of the guards! Unfortunately, the memorial still hasn't been restored to its proper name. There was a bit of political unrest in Taiwan and the Memorial was renamed Democracy Hall and Freedom Plaza and while I support those ideologies, why did they have to mess with my childhood and the places that I grew up visiting?! It's like the whole Freedom Fry thing except we wrote it plaques and posted them for the world to see our stupidity. Hopefully President Ma isn't reading this and revoking my visa as we speak. I really like it here and I need the food!

For lunch, we went to the famed Din Tai Fung for soup dumplings. It was delicious as expected and we inducted Hiro into the secret club that you can only join if you've had soup dumplings in Taiwan. Hiro saw many of his compatriots, one of whom who asked if the soup dumplings were hot... she probably wasn't the brightest crayon in the box. Hiro just laughed and sighed. After that we went to the trendy part of town where all the fashionistas shopped for cheap clothing. It was awesome as expected. We ate some beef chow mein where the noodles were hand crafted. I believe Hiro is falling in love with our food.

After the afternoon of shopping, we arrived home for more food and more urgings from my 94 year old grandmother to eat. It's amazing that even though she is hard of hearing and has bad eye sight, she still manages to know when I'm not 100% full and will urge me to reach that 100%. She's a personal cheerleader for mass consumption! It's totally endearing!
