It took Hiro and I about 5 days to pack everything up in suitcases and to be grateful that he is going back to CA to get the remaining stuff that doesn't fit in our suitcases. When we got to the airport, we realized one of the bags was 5 pounds overweight, so there was some embarrassing repacking right on the check-in counter. Luckily it was late so we could toss our clothes about without too many dirty looks.
First day in Boston was mostly recovering from the red-eye flight. When will I ever learn that it never works?! I woke up about 10 times... I did wake up enough for snacks though! Since we rode JetBlue, there were some remarks about the flight attendant. Apparently, he's getting quite the publicity. Our first day included a lot of lobster and generally milling about plus naps.
Second day in Boston was errand filled. We checked into the apartment at 8AM. We then went to Ikea to buy our furniture and Target to buy everything else. It took us 5 carts to fill the stuff that we need at Ikea and 2 very compacted carts at Target. I don't think I've ever bought that much stuff before! After some drama with zipcar, we unloaded everything(thankfully Ikea delivered) and started assembling furniture. Our priority was bed and sofa bed first, everything else second. We've assembled the bed, sofa bed and the dining room set, all the while orienting the room according to Chinese and Japanese feng shui... which apparently just means that our head has to face west/south... which is also very limiting in a very small apt. No matter, we triumphed anyway.
Tomorrow, we're taking a break from all of the unpacking to go to Rhode Island and to take my parents to see as much of New England before it starts pouring on Monday!
Pictures coming soon! The style that we're going for is undergrad fab! We're not exactly working with a blank canvas so it's hard to be anymore than that!
